It was so wonderful to see everyone on court on Friday night for our first round robin social, and I’m sure you’ll join me in saying that we can’t wait until we are 100% open and can get on court together more regularly. We are so grateful for your patience and support as we overcome the various hurdles that have delayed us.
At the moment we have our Nicol Squash Junior Program up-and-running and some limited programming for adults after 6:30pm on weekdays and during the day on the weekends. Most importantly, we are opening early, before we are really ready, and not charging membership fees as a way to say “thank you” to everyone who has supported us through our journey.
The one thing that is stopping us from opening longer hours are the changing rooms. We expect these to be ready soon (date estimate below). Apart from the obvious inconvenience of not having changing rooms, the reason we are not open longer hours is because we have construction crews in the space 100% of the time we’re not open. With that in mind, here’s what we expect to be the rough schedule of events for the next 30 days:
Sometime during this coming week we will turn on court booking for very limited time slots to make sure everything is working (expect another email blast for this momentous occasion). So if you’re a member you will be able to book a court and come on down and play with your favorite opponent. At the same time we will enable the registration of round robins for adults on our website so that our events are not too overcrowded and everyone can get time on court.
On December 9th or very close to that date we expect the changing rooms to be ready (showers, sinks, toilets and all) and we will expand to our regular operating hours.
Please note that your membership fees do not start accruing until after we are 100% open (6am-11pm daily), so for now we are open “for free” (not counting fees attached to clinics or lessons).
If you haven’t signed up yet and you’d like to please check out our various offerings here. We will charge you one month when you sign up, but you will have from now until we’re open to enjoy “early access” for free.
Because we’ve got nothing to boast about and we’d still like to keep it deep, I have bastardized a fab 4 song just for squash – because it reminds me of where we’re at:
It’s been a hard day’s night, and we’ve been working like a dog
It’s been a hard day’s night, I should be working on that lob
But when I get home to you I find the rails that you do
Are just so, so, right.
You know I work all day to get you money to build you courts
And it’s worth it just to hear you say you’re going to give it everything
So why on earth should I moan, ’cause when I play you alone
You know I feel ok
When I’m playing everything seems to be right
When I’m hitting, feeling that shot oh so tight, tight, yeah
