In the world of sports, access can often be the dividing line — the stark factor determining who gets to play and who watches from the sidelines. At Open Squash, we've been working tirelessly to redraw those lines, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or economic background, can engage with, learn, and love the game of squash.
Since 2020, we’re proud to announce that as direct result of the generosity of our supporters and community members, we've now contributed more than $1 million in discounted memberships and programming, a milestone that marks both our commitment and the impactful strides we've made toward inclusivity. Community matters, and together, Open Squash’s membership can help create inclusivity in the game, both financially, and socially.
Junior Academy Programming and Membership Aid
Our Junior Academy has been at the forefront of bringing young enthusiasts into the squash community. New York kids just love squash! Recognizing the importance of nurturing talent and passion from the earliest stages, we've dedicated significant resources to provide both programming and membership aid. This initiative ensures that promising young athletes have the resources they need to grow, learn, and compete, turning barriers into new pathways for success, no matter their family’s resources.
Partnering Up for Greater Reach
Achieving our mission hasn't been a solo journey. Our partnerships with highly regarded New York City organizations such as the Hudson Guild after-school program and Success Academy have been instrumental in extending our reach. These collaborations have enabled us to tailor our offerings to meet the unique needs of New York’s diverse communities. By pooling our resources and knowledge with that of our partners, we've successfully created a more inclusive environment where the love for squash can blossom.
Making the Game Accessible to Adults
We understand that accessibility concerns don't just stop with the younger generation. Adults, whether they're seeking to learn a new sport, stay active, or even compete, also face barriers to entry. In response, we've offered discounted memberships for adults, opening doors for more people to engage with squash. Through this initiative, we’ve welcomed individuals from all walks of life into our community, fostering both diversity and camaraderie on and off the court. Our vision is for a community squash center where you can play squash with anyone.
Looking Ahead
Our journey since 2020 has been filled with challenges including navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, but also with learning, and most importantly, progress. The $1 million Open Squash has invested in our community reflects more than just a financial commitment; it represents a steadfast dedication to making squash more accessible, enjoyable, and meaningful for all. Still, our work is far from done. As we move forward and with our community’s ongoing help, we remain committed to expanding our initiatives, deepening our partnerships, and continuing to break down barriers in the world of squash.
We invite you to join us in this ongoing mission. Whether you're a seasoned player, a curious newcomer, or someone looking to support the cause, there's a place for you at Open Squash. Together, let's grow the game for everyone. Squash for all!
